The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally and have been for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
